HELLO PLANTS

Landscape construction: Groenpunt

After renovating the inside of the house, the owners wanted to tackle their garden. Except for a few good sized trees, the planting in both front and back garden was old, in bad shape and everything but biodivers. The garden also came with a huge pool which they weren’t sure about keeping.

2 designs were made: 1 with pool but transformed to a natural swimming pool. And 1 without pool. The latter won.

Drought tolerant plants were chosen because of the sandy soil. They are also pollen and nectar rich to attracht as many insects as possible. Specific shrubs were also chosen to act as host plant for butterfly caterpillars.

Through the side gate under the carport (with future green roof), you are welcomed by the colourful garden with plenty of space for the dog to play.

Compost bins and trash cans are hidden behind this fence.
The pool is replaced with a terrace in the sun. Surrounded by 2 multistemmed Malus toringo ‘Brouwers Beauty’ and a high stemmed Betula utilis ‘Fascination’, they will create height in the future and seasonal interest with their blossom and fall colours.

The front garden is now a mix of perennials, shrubs and trees with 70% evergreens for that winter silhouette but with enough variation to have some interest from spring till fall.  Once fully grown it will require minimal maintenance.
